I was in love with Jaime Sommers (The Bionic Woman)

Wow, I feel better admitting that. I suspect I’m not alone. I was ten years old when I first saw her. I had already been hooked on the Six Million Dollar Man, so it wasn’t a big stretch for me to become a Bionic Woman fan as well. I was a little young to understand it at the time, but I was clearly smitten. I had my first major crush on a TV star who was about 15 years older than me. I had all but forgotten about this, but NBC’s introduction of the new series this Fall made me remember. I’m glad I did, I suspect this information may be very important in my ongoing therapy.
Jamie Sommers was introduced to the Six Million Dollar Man viewers in a two part episode in 1975. She was the fiance of Lee Majors’ character (which reminds me of Farrah Fawcett..I think we need to talk about that poster in another blog post at some point) who was badly injured in a sky diving accident. Lee Majors convinces the Government to use the same techniques they used on him to rebuild her. She, however, was not as accepting or happy about the whole thing.
This story line made possible a spin off series that ran for two years (1976-1978) as well as a couple of made for TV reunion movies in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I remember watching them and thinking
that she looked a little old. I suspect she was about the age I am now. Sigh… It’s worth noting, that I have seen some pictures of her recently. With all the press that’s going on with the new series, there’s a rekindled interest in Lindsay Wagner. I have to say, I think she looks great. If she’d have me, I’m still interested.
Anyway, it looks as if NBC is trying to rekindle the magic. On Wednesday Sept. 26 @ 9 PM EST, Jaime returns. I’ve seen the trailer, and it looks incredible. Special note to Battlestar Galactica fans, the actress who place Starbuck (kara) is in the cast (possibly only short term) as the “evil” bionic woman. I’ll be watching and putting up some kind of review. Check out the trailer if you want to see if you’re interested.
